Journey into the Belly Band World... And Doggie Essentials
Hello my name is Linda Gerdes Everyone has a different start up as to how they decided to begin their endeavors. My belly bands endeavor started as I was working at another job and donated quantities of them to various rescue groups. The feedback over time all fueled my enthusiasm to pursue it further. I tried pushing hot buttons to see if anyone could give me negatives on what I had designed and virtually no one had any. After hearing more than one rescue group say "once the word gets out on how good these things are you will be very busy"; I then began to process the idea.
My experience with a good product is that it needs to sell itself. In a cyber world with many ways to communicate and still a lack of the human element to do so, a product has to be simple and affective. While I looked at a couple of belly bands, none had the quality I felt people truly needed. But then good quality means hard work, labor time, something our world calculates to the letter but doesn't want to take. It means slow short run gains for a brighter future. It also means customers need to be aware of in my case the hand layering that goes into each of my belly bands which includes an absorbent belly side fabric, quilt batting, and durable plastic sheeting material. The top side is generally a functional cotton/polyester print or in some cases knit that allows some stretch ability for special needs dogs.
With a background in Purchasing and Customer Service I'm aware of securing good suppliers and identifying customers that appreciate good quality. Both elements are important in having a successful blend happen. Being aware of value added services and asking one's customers if they perceive them to be important should always be part of the process too. Finding out from them what other variables they would like to see in a product also needs to be understood. I've learned that some prefer bands with fabric and plastic sheeting material only which allows them to use a pad or panty liner as they don't want the amount of maintenance to wash them as others prefer with the layered belly bands. So meeting customer needs is key for survival.
The journey involves customers that chose you as you too are choosing them for consistent business. That means developing relationships which is what demonstrates a total quality package. Linda Gerdes Doggie Essentials "Best in Belly Bands"
